OISD Report on Low Carbon Cities Launched

The keynote and the accompanying paper both review best practice in post-occupancy social sustainability metric systems, based on recent research undertaken by OISD on Dockside Green in Vancouver, and they identify the key operational issues in mainstreaming the concept within major mixed use projects.

OISD:RELP at Anglo-Japan Symposium on Brownfield Regeneration 2010
A major symposium on the shared experience of bringing brownfield sites back into use in England and Japan was recently held at Osaka University. The symposium was held on 10-13 December 2010 and was attended by some 30 invited delegates from academia and practice in both countries.

New Book - Urban Regeneration & Social Sustainability: Best Practice from European cities
A new book co-authored by Professor Tim Dixon (Director of OISD, Co-Director of OISD: RELP and Professor of Real Estate) and Dr Andrea Colantonio (formerly of OISD and Dept of Real Estate and Construction, and now based at LSE) has just been published. The book, which is based on research which was funded through the EIB EIBURS research programme in OISD, examines social sustainability and analyses its meaning and significance – an area of research which has, until now, been comparatively neglected in the sphere of urban studies.

OISD Awarded Major EPSRC Grant on Retrofitting Cities to 2050
OISD has helped secure a major £2m research grant from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) under the recent Sustainable Urban Environments 'Integration Across Scales' Call. The research will explore a range of future-based scenarios which can help key stakeholders achieve a more sustainable urban environment at a 'city region' scale in the UK by 2050.

New Research Reveals the Lessons of Japan's 'Lost Decade' in a 'Tale of Two Cities'
New research from OISD: Real Estate and Policy Group suggests that other cities can learn from the recent experience of Manchester and Osaka in bringing brownfield sites back into use. The research was led by Professor Tim Dixon, Director of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development at Oxford Brookes University, in partnership with Osaka University.
